I am writing this in regard to the Chance To Become Scholarship. Being the first female recipient of the scholarship, I was extremely grateful as it gave me the opportunity to and ability to pursue a college education.

As a senior in high school, I knew I wanted to attend college after graduation. But, due to my unspectacular 3.4 G.P.A. and my parents’ relatively high salaries, I realized I was not eligible for many scholarships. Thus, due to the lack of viable scholarship opportunities available, I was tremendously discouraged and highly unmotivated to apply for college. Needless to say, if I had not been awarded the Chance To Become Scholarship, it is likely I would not have attended college. – Cheri Otteson-Kielblock, RN Linfield College

I am a recipient of the Chance To Become Scholarship and I would like you to know what you have done for me. In having this scholarship, first of all I am still in school and have minimal debts thus far. This would not be true if I would of been paying for school myself. No only does this money help me with school, but food and gas money so I can drive home.

I am majoring in Human Development and Family Studies but am thinking of changing my major to Pre-Med, which would basically be a major in science. I want to work with kids and help them, I just haven’t quite figured out what I want to do yet. I currently hold a 3.0 G.P.A but am working hard to raise that. Having this scholarship has helped me to focus on my studies and thus I can concentrate on my homework and think about my career path. – Toni Scheurmann, Oregon State University

During graduation I received the Chance to Become Scholarship and I was thrilled. Since then I have been attending the University of Oregon and am a sophomore with a G.P.A. of 3.60. I have recently been accepted into the IT Program, which is Integrated Teaching for future teachers. I come from a large family and they are unable to help me with the financial obligations I face with paying for school. I have greatly depended on financial aid and this scholarship to get me through the first two years of college. I am very grateful to the individual or group that has been so generous and giving this scholarship. Without this scholarship I might not have been able to finance this year but thanks to this scholarship I am able to. I plan to work hard to stay in college and graduate with a teaching license. – Heather Flori, University of Oregon
